Young Leaders Social Media Café

YLSMC-Logo.gifI’m at Zico House, Beirut, attending the Young Leaders Social Media Café in its Vol. 01- which is a spin off from the Young Leaders Visitors Program, launched in 2008, and initiated by the Swedish Institute for young leaders from around the MENA region.

We come together young adults from all around the MENA region and Sweden – students, techies, geeks, social media enthusiasts, activists, journalists, entrepreneurs, investors, civic and business leaders, policy-makers and change-makers – with a common goal to ‘Rethink the Middle-East Socially.’

According to it’s initiators, the Café is “a confluence of the creative, tech and entrepreneurial people who are currently gathering around social media and online social networking for a greater cause – social change issues“. The Café will take place in different location in more than 12 Arab countries and it aims to “provide a friendly social space for digital innovators in all fields, helping them connecting, expressing and working for social change in the Arab World.”

I find the format of this event quit funny actually: 8 minute presentation (22 slides x 22 seconds). Of course, I’m very excited to try this format for the presentation that I’ll be giving on Digital activism and online free expression.

I’m trying to liveblog, film this event and update this post. But you can follow #YLSMC hashtag on twitter.
